About The Yarn
The wool for my Organic Merino Sport yarn comes from small herds in the mountains of Peru where sheep are the livelihood of the region. The animals are cared for with earnest to ensure they receive the highest price possible for their fleece which guarantees a livable income for themselves and their families. This attention and care of the Peruvian shepherds combined with a climate that is less conducive to invasive diseases such as flystrike, allows the shepherds to safely raise their flock without the use of applying insecticides or pesticides to their coats. Additionally, the wool is processed in a Peruvian mill that provides education programs to help shepherds employ sustainable farming practices that benefit both the sheep and the earth.
The resulting yarn is incredibly soft and fluffy with an ethereal halo. The dyes interact with this non-superwash treated yarn much more slowly creating beautiful tonals and watercolor like variegated colorways that have an inherent softness to them. The yarn gently flows through your fingers in a way that allows you to feel the love and care that went into raising the sheep that provided the wool for this yarn. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to source this rare high quality yarn and to dye it for you and continue to seek out new yarn that aligns with our commitment to humane farming practices, fair wages and sustainability.
