Ellis 100% Made in New York

Scroll down for my ever growing list of project inspiration.

Ellis is versatile lace weight yarn, spun with a balanced blend of domestically produced Rambouillet and Finn wool that together create a truly luxurious yarn with just a touch of rustic. This 2 ply yarn is slightly heavier than a typical lace weight yarn and works well on a variety of needle sizes and in a wide array of projects to create a remarkable fabric that is ultra-soft with a lofty bounce.

From sheep to skein, this yarn is 100% made in New York State. The wool was ethically produced by small NYS farms that pledge to sustainably practices, the fiber was spun at Battenkill Fiber Mill in Greenwhich, NY and the yarn was hand dyed by me in Fairport, NY.

Available now in 16 vibrant tonal colorways.

A Unique Blend of Two High Quality Wool Fibers

Finn wool is prized by hand spinners for its distinctive luster and characteristic soft hand while maintaining durability for hard wearing garments. The wool is soft and durable with great elasticity and has a wonderful sheen and loftiness to it.

The Rambouillet sheep share their lineage with the more well-known Merino. They produce a fine wool with a similar micron count (the lower the micron count, the softer the fiber) to Merino wool while offering additional elasticity and strength. The wool is both springy and dense, adding warmth and memory for excellent stitch definition that is often hard to achieve in a light weight fabric.

When you pair these two fine wools together they create a soft and luxurious yarn that is durable without sacrificing next to skin softness, and with incredible memory for garments that will never lose their shape over time.

Project Inspiration

I  am currently knitting the Thamnophis Tee by Morgan Woltersdorf commonly known as @Morthunder on Instagram, and I am just blown away by the incredibly soft and bouncy fabric this yarn is creating while maintaining crisp stitch definition. The fabric is light and airy like I would expect from a lace weight yarn, but the incredible way that this yarn blooms to create a light weight and airy fabric without losing integrity and structure is unlike any yarn I have knit with before. Would you believe that I am knitting this on US size 8 needles? I was nervous that a needle size this large paired with lace weight yarn was going to result in a big floppy mess, instead I am perfectly on gage and eager to get this off the needles and into my summer wear rotation.

I have a whole list of projects lined up in my queue to keep my hands busy and my wardrobe full all summer long. See my list below of my ever growing project list of patterns that I think would be perfect for this yarn.
