COLORWAY

NEW - Released for the Winter 2025 ROC Love collection; a color series inspired by my home city Rochester, NY.

Sam Patch was named for the famed dare devil that met his demise in 1829 by leaping over High Falls in Rochester, NY. This speckled colorway features a showman’s display of vibrant coral, blue, green, and aqua speckles on an Icey blue background.

 THE STORY

Sam Patch was an early American daredevil that came to Rochester, NY to jump High Falls, the 94-foot waterfalls of the Genesee River that run through the center of our flower city. On Friday, November 6, 1829, Sam jumped successfully in front of a crowd of 8000 spectators but was reported to be disappointed by the little money he generated from his stunt.

Sam decided to repeat his jump one week later, but this time from a platform he constructed 25 feet above the falls. Little did he know that this fateful Friday the 13th leap would be his last! The historical record is undecided as to whether he jumped or fell, and many insist he was even drunk. Regardless of the circumstances, he did not survive, and his frozen body was not found until the following spring having been locked away in the icy abyss of the Genesee River. He was buried in Charlotte cemetery near where he was found with a wooden board marking his grave that simply read "Here lies Sam Patch - Such is fame."

 THE YARN

Head in the Clouds

Single ply lace weight

70% Superkid Mohair 30% Silk

~459 yards / 50g

Superkid mohair is the most luxurious and sought-after type of mohair yarn. It is made from the first shearing of young Angora goats at about six months old. Ideal for lightweight shawls and garments, often held together with another yarn to create a fabric with a cozy delicate halo.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Hand wash in cool water using a wool safe detergent such as Eucalan. It is normal for some color to bleed from hand dyed yarns when washed for the first time; cold water will help to prevent bleeding. Always test when combining very saturated colors, especially red with lighter colors.

FROM THE STUDIO

Each skein will vary in saturation and speckling, even if they are from the same dye batch. This is what makes hand dyed yarn so unique and special. If creating a project requiring multiple skeins of the same color, always rotate your skeins every few rows for a seamless blend of color.

All yarn is dyed by hand in a smoke free & pet friendly studio.
